Dormir 02:34

Christopher and Bernard met during the Quebec Festival in Pittsburgh in 2007, when three Quebec poets came to the city for several days and Christopher did the hosting. When it turned out that Christopher’s customary summer rental in Montreal was around the corner from Bernard’s place, the two made a tradition of meeting for a meal, exchanging their latest creative productions (books of poetry and albums) and catching up. Along the way they collaborated on one song (Hockey éternité) and in 2019 determined that a full-length recording project was a possibility. The resulting album, Montréal encore, includes six songs with Bernard’s lyrics put to music by Christopher, two lyric co-writes, three French songs previously written by Christopher , and a poem recorded by Bernard. (See credits below for details.) The title itself echoes both Christopher’s song Montreal Again and Bernard’s poem Montréal encore, and evokes a city that seems to be in constant renaissance for them both.

Christopher Mark Jones Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

CMJ sings soulful country and blues-inflected Americana narratives
in “a rich voice that’s slightly rough around the edges” (Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), but still grabs the listener along with his “fascinating lyrics” (Melody Maker, UK) Listeners hear echoes of “Greg Brown's pacing and a Lyle Lovett attitude” (Ben Shannon), as well as of John Prine, Bruce Coburn and Darrell Scott. ... more
